It’s Friday: Try Something New

Many years ago, when I was teaching part time, I pretty much had Fridays “off”. I decided to use that time to try out new technologies. Nowadays, my schedule often doesn’t allow for the free exploration of new things. I try them when I need to. But setting aside time on Friday to try something out is a good idea. It gives you the freedom to mess up without the pressure of a deadline. And if it works out, then you have something new to add to your repetoire and might even be able to start a project.
This week, I tried out a new presentation tool, Prezi, taken from Alan Levine’s 50 Ways to Tell a Story wiki. It’s a really nifty looking tool and subverts, as George Siemens noted, the linear nature of most presentations. But, because I was using it for an actual presentation with an actual deadline, I got frustrated with it. I will come back to it, I think, when I can just play.
What tools have you tried recently? How did it work out?
